Here We Go!

I'm so excited to share my very first blog post! Here's a peek into some of the people and experiences that led me here...

The Gorge

My love for all things wine started when I spent two years living in the Columbia River Gorge a few years back. If you have not been to this incredibly beautiful and inspiring place - GO! I immediately latched-on to the sustainable, artisan-minded winemakers and the stunning views from their tasting rooms - I was hooked and so began my informal wine education.

My two favorite wineries of the area were, and still are, Domaine Pouillon and Marchesi Vineyards. Perhaps it’s their old-world style charm and wine making, the approachability and passion of the winemakers, Alexis and Franco and their staff, or maybe it's just the fantastic wine. Whatever it is, I love them both (along with many others) and credit them with first inspiring me to explore wine deeper. Merci and grazie friends!

Who couldn't love this view from Marchesi Vineyard's tasting patio?

Italy

Italy, what's not to love? This country is all about food, wine and culture - just like me! My visit a couple of years ago was the last push I needed to start the shift from a career as an interior/architectural designer to some aspect of the wine industry. Whether it's the cliff side wineries along the Cinque Terre Coast or hillside wineries of Tuscany, one thing that everyone I met seemed to share was deep passion for food, wine and tradition. Organic/biodynamic farming is the norm, not for the recognition or credit, but because it's the most sustainable approach and produces the best wine. Just let the grapes speak for themselves, I can get behind that. This rarely shows-up on the label, after all, who wants that paperwork headache - there's Brunello to drink!

Nothing better than sipping wine in the same beautiful environment it was created in - Riomaggiore, Italy.

Friends

Eva Kosmas Flores and Christiann Koepke are my new and ridiculously talented friends who I met randomly through an Instagram post calling for helpers with their first Our Secret Supper event. I jumped at the opportunity to help create their first delicious and elegantly styled five-course dinner. Little did I know that this would provide the final inspiration and direction I needed to start my own business, merging my formal wine education with my creative passions.

We are busy planning our September Secret Supper, taking place at a beautiful farm in the foothills of Mt. Hood in the Columbia River Gorge - fitting since this is where this whole journey started. Stay tuned for a future post on the event as well as more creative collaborations!
