Winter Workshop + Long Table Dinner

Recently, I had the pleasure of designing a winter photography/food styling workshop and long table dinner alongside my friends Eva Kosmas FloresChristiann Koepke and Stacey Clark. You can’t get more Christmas-like than our location, inside a beautiful restored barn at a former Christmas tree farm near Washougal, WA. Since it was just before the holidays we made sure to include lots of festive and warm touches - perfect for a rainy winters day. 

We were joined by a wonderful group of creative guests and spent the day learning a ton about color, light and getting the perfect shot from Eva, Christiann and Stacey. I think even shots of my 3-day old leftovers will now look straight out of a 5-star restaurant…well maybe not, but I certainty gained immense knowledge from these three! 

Taping into our creative juices worked-up an appetite, so the amazing lunch prepared by Jaret and Mona of Foster’s Craft Cooking was well-timed and simply delicious! To start, they treated us to fabulous whole roasted cauliflower with an Oregon hazelnut romanesco, treviso and parsley leaf salad with shaved celery, manchego, and a sherry vinaigrette. The second course was a chorizo, clam and white bean stew prepared outside over an open fire in a gigantic, three foot paella pan.

The day was not all smooth sailing though; while cooking dinner our stove unexpectedly broke. Not to worry though, Mona and Jaret didn’t skip a beat and finished dinner on top of the wood burning stove without even a flicker of panic - total rock stars! Working with these two really made my day. Their passion for cooking simple/natural food in an authentic rustic style was so inspiring! In closing, I am excited to announce that Eva, Christiann and I will be partnered-up again to present four Secret Supper long-table dinners in 2016 (one for each season)! Each event has a unique theme, menu and sponsors. The winter theme is Fire & Ice, and will take place on Saturday, February 27th. All 5-courses will be prepared over an open fire filled with smoldering wood and glowing coals. We've found a magical location tucked away in the woods outside of Portland, OR and would love for you to join us.
